“Daydream Away” is a wistful song about the intoxicating power of nostalgia. A hazy walking bass line and dreamy pedal-steel guitar underscore the dream-like trance of living in the past. This is the second single off his debut album, Torch Songs, recorded in Nashville with a band sharing credits with Prince and Kacey Musgraves.
lyrics
When the blues of the nighttime call
All of your nightmares fade into the dawn
You wish for your mother to come into your room
But she won't be there, so daydream away
When the blues of the nighttime call
Dreams of your lovers tug at your heart
You wish to go back there, to start it all anew
But you can't do that, so daydream away
If only I could be there
On the day when she was born
If only I could be there
Give her shelter from the storm
When the blues of the nighttime call
All of your nightmares take hold
You wish you can be there, in your childhood room
But you're the big man now, so daydream away
